<em>¿Va primero el verbo?</em> OR <em>¿El sujeto va primero?</em>: Subject-verb order in Latin American Spanish

This paper investigates subject-verb placement for unaccusative and unergative verbs in Spanish, focusing on syntactic, pragmatic, sociolinguistic factors that predict placement. The study aims to answer three questions: (1) Does the unergative/unaccusative divide influence SV/VS order acceptability?, (2) What are dialectal differences subject acceptability Spanish?, (3) sentence context affect preference? collected data from sixty-nine Spanish speakers Caribbean, Chile, Mexico, who provided 1656 ratings sentences with different orders. findings indicate both verb type pragmatic conditions word preferability, VS preferred when is unaccusative, SV overall. adds literature by establishing connection between argument structure information supporting Unaccusative Hypothesis.
